Commercial case studies

When it comes to your commercial outdoor projects, beware of contractors who just say they have the experience. Here are some of our real life case studies for your total peace of mind.

Gold Coast Hospital

The single largest construction project ever under taken on the gold coast. Contemporary Decks was asked to install all of the timber work in all outdoor lanscaped areas. The Hospital features 5 open air court yards and 1 rehibilation level area. The land scaping on all areas is some of the most lavish and pioneering designs yet to be matched in Queensland. The timber decked areas and seated areas had to have secret fixings , random profile patterns , Curved Radius and Hardwood or Stainless Steel sub-structures. The modern architectural designs and use of hardwood timbers was some of the most complex and detailed finishes on the Gold Coast. Contemporary Decks considers this project to be some of our best work to date.

Morton Bay Environmental Centre

Contemporary decks undertook construction of a uniquely designed composite decking boardwalk project for St Hillier's Construction as part of the Queensland state school projects scheme. The structure creates a unique entrance to the Morton Bay Environmental Centre. The Boardwalk features included multiple radius curved design; trim decking to suit its radius curves; ramped and level sections for wheel chair resting points.

Entrance and exit slabs and all stainless steel decking screws were pre-drilled and uniformly countersunk in a dead straight screw line configuration. Each cut of all timber materials used were coated with a copper nitrate solution followed by another two coats covering the overall sub-structure. All Concrete used in the piers and slabs complied to environmental requirements with Boral's eco friendly mixture and all timber materials used had to be sourced in accordance with all environmental impact requirements set for the boardwalk project.

The Radisson Resort Gold Coast

Contemporary Decks was involved in the outdoor pool area reconstruction of one of the Gold Coast's most sort-after tourist hotels. The job entailed numerous meetings and discussions involving design, configuration and practicality in a commercial environment, resulting in numerous design concepts with originality, functionality and health and safety in mind. The Decking structure is over 160sqm with grand steps running full length, picture framing and perfectly mitred joins to give a more traditional appearance. A ramped section was also included to allow food and beverage trolleys to access the upper level of the deck for functions and outdoor social events. Other design features included a unique chess board to be utilised by patrons of the establishment and a storage facility around the base of a protruding palm tree to access control of the electrical LED deck lighting and glass and plate storage.

The Radisson hotel was extremely happy with not only the professional finish and eye catching design but with Contemporary Decks punctuality and ability to meet time constraints.

Wynnum State School

Cladding of eight steel framed column structures in order to give a natural eco friendly look. With sustainability a priority, recommendations were made by Contemporary Decks to modify the original design to change from hardwood cladding to a composite marine board.

This allowed the client to practically eliminate any maintenance needed. Using the composite material gave a softened balance look to the appearance of the steel column structure.

Metricon Sunshine Coast

Display homes consisting of numerous decks , outdoor pergolas , boardwalk entrances , Bali huts and built in barbeque features, plus timber screens and boundary fencing. One of the project s was classed for that year as Metricon's signature display home. This was used aggressively in all of their marketing campaigns. Extremely tight time constraints were confidently achieved and the ability to work over and in amongst other teams on site proved to be a unique working environment that was easily adapted to.
